ABOUT

Vanessa Vella is an award winning screen creative in Malta who directs moving images for film, television, the web and social media. She has been actively involved in the national media industry for over 14 years, during which she took on various above and below-the-line roles in crews working on productions for private and state organisations.

Vanessa has produced and worked on commercials, corporate videos, music videos, short and experimental films, and TV programmes. She is also a media educator and trainer, having delivered undergraduate courses, seminars and private workshops about skills in the creative media industry. Currently, she is engaged as Media Productions Executive at Studioseven, where she leads the production department within the company.

Vanessa continues to develop her knowledge and skills in filmmaking by being involved in projects both locally and abroad. She graduated from her MA in Directing at MetFilm School in Berlin where she gained more experience in the director’s craft by working with actors and crew from around the world.
Her previous projects for the screen include the short film Punchline (2019), the poem adaptation Il-Barri (2015), the student film Checkmate (2014) and a documentary about cinemas in Malta called Empty Seats (2013). Her work has won awards from the Malta Cine Circle, the Malta Youth Film Festival, the Malta Short Film Festival and the Malta Television Awards.
